Wonder Working Faith
Jesus said in Acts 1:8 to the body of believers, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me …” The word “power” (dynamis in Greek, Strong’s # 1411) refers to the miracle working power that was part of His ministry – miracles, healings, signs and wonders. Notice that He didn’t say you shall receive tongues. We should receive power! We have put the emphasis of the baptism of the Holy Spirit on the wrong thing. Of course tongues is an outward sign, but Jesus said that we should receive dynamis – power. The Greek word dynamis is the root of the english word dynamite.
In his book, Smith Wigglesworth on Spiritual Gifts, Wigglesworth stated , “There is a great weakness in the church of Christ because of an awful ignorance concerning the Spirit of God and the gifts He has come to bring.” I believe this to be true. The early church walked in the power of God, just as Jesus said in John 14:12 – if we believed on Him, we would do the same and even greater works that He did. I believe there is a lack of teaching on the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
The Father has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit, it was His promise. Jesus paid the price and became sin for us that we may be made the righteousness of God in Him. We could never receive the Holy Spirit without the righteousness of God. The manifestations or gifts of the Spirit are the result of this baptism. The gifts of the Spirit have been given to each one of us for the profit of all. We should see the power of God in the church – the body of Christ.
Let’s continue in His Word and in our study of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Let’s see what the Word of God has to say about the gifts and manifestations of the Holy Spirit and how they should be part of our walk with Him.
