The Faith of Abraham Part 1

This week of the broadcast we begin a new series on “The Faith of Abraham.”

The Bible commands us in four places to live by faith, “The just shall live by faith.” We are the just, the righteous of God that the scripture is speaking of. Jesus, who knew no sin, became sin for us, that we may be made the righteousness of God in Him. Think about that! Righteousness has no varying degrees – either you are righteous or you are not. One slight error or one small sin can keep you from being clean and righteous. But Jesus became sin for us, even though He was completely righteous, unblemished and without fault.

Romans 4 tells us that Abraham believed God, and God counted that to him for righteousness. But that wasn’t just written for his sake alone, it was written for our sakes too. Righteousness, or right standing with God has been granted to us too who believe in God, who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was betrayed and put to death because of our misdeeds and was raised to secure our justification, making our accounts balance and absolving us from all guilt before God (see Amplified Bible).

When we believe, God clears our slate! We are believers and believers believe. That is what we do. We are the just and we are commanded to live by faith, it’s not an option, it’s a commandment.

Faith is a decision. Faith begins where the will of God is known. When we believe, revelation comes. When we decide we are going to believe God, our hearts are open and our minds are receptive to the truth, then we can understand.
